Surrounded? What Really Happened as Native Drummer Confronted March for Life in DC
It’s being portrayed as a gotcha moment of racism, hatred, bigotry and lack of respect for Native American culture. However, a video clip taken from another aspect tells a far different story about what really happened when Native American Nathan Phillips crossed a football field of empty space to insert himself into the midst of Trump supporters, Catholic school students and other conservative supporters of this weekend’s March for Life attendees in Washington D.C.
In the video, Nathan Phillips, an Omaha Native pipe carrier clearly walks toward and steps into a group of Trump supporters. Accounts from liberal news outlets and leftist social media sites claim the Catholic school students “chased, mobbed and surrounded,” the native American Phillips and taunted and disrespected him. What none of those accounts are willing to show is that it was Phillips who initiated the confrontation, placing himself directly into the crowd of Trump supporting, Pro-Life protestors.
In this video, you can see the moment Phillips and his group begin playing their drum, walking a few hundred feet to step directly between the group of MAGA youth and a group of Black Lives Matter protestors to divert the energy away from them and towards him. Phillips has said it was his intention to divert attention away from several Nation of Islam protestors involved in a confrontation with the large group of Trump supporting youth from a Catholic high school in Kentucky.
Was disrespect shown by the young men involved? Evidence says their reaction to being sought out, walked up on and confronted could have been more exemplary. Totality of evidence shows there was confrontational disrespect on both sides and very little interest in “peace” by those claiming moral high ground and then crying racial mistreatment. Respect begins with being honest about what really happened, not in distorting and dramatizing facts to enhance your cause.
Accuracy is important when relaying news.
Here’s the truncated video that’s being circulated.
