Bad Messaging and Worse Science on the Right Endangers Many Trump Supporters, Jeopardizing 2020 Turnout. Fauci Snaps the Trap on Trump, Blaming Death Toll on Slowness of Response to COVID threat.
–In the same way President Donald Trump went from downplaying the severity of the virus to declaring a national emergency to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic, a damning video montage shows how conservative media figures have evolved their narrative over time, first dismissing COVID-19 and minimizing the disease as nothing but a media contrived hoax to ruin the economy and take down Trump. Now, they sound more serious and the contrast is stunning.
“Prominent conservative mouthpieces have done an endangering disservice to their listeners and viewers and possibly, irreparable political harm to the President they support by not understanding the true threat confronting the world in the coronavirus outbreak. Their words and the advancement of false narratives based on faulty science will show up everywhere in American life, including at the voting booth. Or, not show up at the voting booth. Because those who believed the “it’s just a cold” narrative are going to be statistically, scientifically provably less likely to be around on election day. And that’s a fact.”
–If you minimize this disease out of mathematical illiteracy and science ignorance, remember this. Every dead Trump supporter potentially votes twice in 2020. One lost vote for Trump and one dead vote for Hillary or Michelle or whomever replaces doddering Joe when he takes his last header.
–The drug Hydroxychloroquine, long used on malaria and arthritis patients, will be made available “almost immediately” to coronavirus patients with a prescription, he said during the Trump administration’s coronavirus task force briefing on Thursday. President Donald Trump announces that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has slashed red tape to fast track the approval of the drug’s new use, he added. It has had “very encouraging early results” in tests on COVID-19.
–Initial jobless claims rise 281,00 this week, exceeding economist projections of 211,000, sending yet another bearish signal through an already collapsing market. The first time unemployment claims number is the highest since July 2017 when claims reached 291,000.
–Italy falls deeper into the abyss, recording 476 deaths and 4,702 new COVID cases in a single day.
