–Shad Olson DESTROYS the myth that “80% of American agricultural acres are dedicated to feeding livestock,” revealing what native midwesterners and inhabitants of the Great Plains know full well: The majority of ag land acres designated as grazing land for cattle are in arid and semiarid portions of an area from the Texas panhandle to the prairies of Winnipeg Canada known as the Great American Desert. As a native of the Sandhills of Nebraska, Shad Olson mocks the assertion of livestock production inefficiency, pointing out that cattle grazing in the Great Plains and ranching in general IS CONSERVATION LAND MANAGEMENT, utilizing portions of the American topography that are unsuitable for any other type of production ag, and cost prohibitive as irrigated farmland.
