Shad Olson tells the story of a prominent Black Hills gynecologist who for years has been performing dilation and curettage procedures for women, inserting a curet in through the cervix, scraping the uterine lining for the “removal of abnormal tissue,” effectively ending early pregnancies without any informing or statistical record of abortion procedure. D and C procedures can be used to end a pregnancy without ticking the meter in states where abortion is now illegal in any form. Shad describes the need for a law that would close the D and C loophole, by requiring a pregnancy test prior to dilation and curettage procedures and offers to write the bill himself for lawmakers to carry.
