Bill Maher Bashes Cyber-ban on Conservatives: ‘Alex Jones Gets to Speak’
HBO liberal demi-god, Bill Maher, became an unlikely defender of conservative talk host, Alex Jones on his Friday night broadcast, (8/17) slamming tech companies and social media platforms for their cowardly and collusive effort at banning Jones and his InfoWars network from the largest mass distribution networks on the planet.
“If you’re a liberal, you’re supposed to be for free speech. I don’t like Alex Jones. But Alex Jones gets to speak. Everybody gets to speak.”
–Bill Maher
“If you’re a liberal you’re supposed to be for free speech, that’s free speech for the speech you hate. That’s what free speech means,” Maher said, above the din of his studio audience applauding the banning of Alex Jones from facebook and Twitter. Maher continued.
“We’re losing the thread of the concepts that are important to this country. If you care about the real American shit, or you don’t, and if you do, it goes for every side. I don’t like Alex Jones. But Alex Jones gets to speak. Everybody gets to speak.”
While Maher’s stance will likely find his social circle shrinking to roughly that of O.J. Simpson’s, kudos to him and anyone who still understands that there was a time when mainstream liberals were staunch defenders of classically liberal concepts like public expression and free speech, rather than the emotionally fragile, authoritarian censors and violent suppressors of dissenting thought and opinion that they have become today.
